The Brisbane Winter Carnival continues at Eagle Farm on Saturday, and a classy field of fillies will assemble for the Queensland Oaks.
Local hope Gypsy Goddess hasn’t returned a poor effort since debuting, and she is a fitting favourite in 2022 Queensland Oaks betting.
Queensland Oaks – Winner
No. 2 Gypsy Goddess
She has drawn appallingly, but Gypsy Goddess is just the best horse in the Queensland Oaks field and I think she’ll be winning.
The Tarzino filly stamped herself as one to watch when debuting for five-consecutive wins, including the Eagle Way Quality and the Grand Prix Stakes in summer.
At her last three starts, she’s finished third in the Vinery Stud Stakes and second in both the ATC Oaks and the Gold Coast Bracelet.
She has been freshened since the latter and with appropriate luck, can win this race.
Queensland Oaks – 2nd
No. 1 Barb Raider
Barb Raider is in the short back-up from her victory in last week’s Group 2 Roses and she too is up to winning the Queensland Oaks.
The daughter of Rebel Raider has been outstanding for the Jerome Hunter yard since debuting, having picked off some lovely feature races along the way, though a Group 1 remains elusive.
She steps out this week in peak order, Craig Williams retains the ride and she’ll also prove tough to beat with the right run.
Queensland Oaks – 3rd
No. 7 Gin Martini
Gin Martini has continued to improve with racing and as she has gotten further out in trip this time, and I’m keen to have her in my Queensland Oaks trifecta.
Gin Martini has been up and racing for some time, and while it appeared as though she’d reached the end of her prep when she finished down the order in the Vinery Stud Stakes, she responded with an outstanding performance to fill the minors in the ATC Oaks.
Since arriving in Queensland, she has finished fourth in both the Gold Coast Bracelet and The Roses, so I am expecting something similar this week.
Queensland Oaks – 4th
No. 3 Glint Of Hope
Glint Of Hope was set for and subsequently won the Australasian Oaks at Morphettville last month, so she clearly has the talent at this level.
But I do wonder if her inclusion in the Queensland Oaks field is a bit of an afterthought.
The Deep Impact filly hasn’t missed placing in four starts back this time, winning twice and highlighted obviously by her maiden victory at the highest level.
She too will require luck in running from barrier 14, but she can fight out the finish as well.
