Group 1 racing might have concluded in Melbourne for another season, but there’s still some outstanding Saturday metropolitan action set to take place, and it all continues at Caulfield on Redoute’s Choice Stakes Day!
There are nine winners to be found on Saturday and I am confident of having found a few of them below in my 2022 Redoute’s Choice Stakes Day Tips.

Langwarrin Hotal Handicap (2400m) – 12:30pm
Tip: No. 5 Maserartie Bay
Maserartie Bay takes winning form into the first at Caulfield on Saturday, and I am happy to stick with him.
The five-year-old gelding didn’t show his best form last time in and went to the paddock after finishing down the order behind Smokin’ Romans at The Valley.
He however resumed this time for finish a credible fifth over a mile at HQ, and proved far too good for them at Yarra Valley last time.
Fitter third-up, he can make a successful transition back to Saturday metro company.
Dexion Victoria Handicap (2000m) – 1:05pm
Tip: No. 7 Deepstrike
Deepstrike is another last-start winner with claims again on Redoute’s Choice Stakes Day.
Deepstrike needed his first two runs back this time to tune up, but stepped out at Sandown last time and didn’t give anything else a chance – greeting the judge more than three lengths ahead of his rivals.
This is harder, but he harbours further improvement, and it does look the next logical step.
Obrien Real Estate Handicap (1600m) – 1:40pm
Tip: No. 6 Blackcomb
Blackcomb faces a rise in class at Caulfield on Saturday, but she couldn’t have been more impressive when resuming this time, and I think that she can and will win again.
The Vancouver filly has hinted at ability since making her debut, and she found form around some quality gallopers during the spring without managing to record an elusive win.
She made an ideal return to the races at Pakenham last month, comfortably accounting for a field of maidens, and she’s ready to win on a Saturday.
Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1100m) – 2:15pm
Tip: No. 8 Yowie
Yowie has only made one appearance at the races so far, but she couldn’t have been much more impressive, and the Redoute’s Choice Stakes looks a lovely target for her.
Yowie was sent off a $6 chance in the 1000m dash at Sandown and mustered an impressive turn of foot to easily put away her rivals.
She’ll only improve for that effort and she will be tough to beat again under Jye McNeil.
L.U. Simon Builders Handicap (1100m) – 2:55pm
Tip: No. 3 Yulong Defence
Yulong Defence will take improvement into his second campaign start, and this looks to be a very winnable race for him.
The Star Witness gelding ended his last prep with consecutive second placings in metro company, including one behind subsequent black type winner In The Boast.
He needed his first run back on Neds Mornington Cup Day a fortnight ago, but he is a horse who tends to enjoy sharp improvement with one under his belt, and he has won two of three at this point of his preparation previously.
Wilde Racing Handicap (1100m) – 3:35pm
Tip: No. 1 Mynumerouno
Mynumerouno can record another win at Caulfield on Redoute’s Choice Stakes Day.
The Nick Ryan-trained gelding has recorded five wins and a minor from his six career starts to date, and he has been faultless this time in, winning at The Valley before taking out the VOBIS Gold Eldorado at Echuca last time.
Fitter third-up, the $6 about him at publish looks overs, in my opinion.
IAM Handicap (1400m) – 4:15pm
Tip: No. 1 Tilianam
Tilianam has stripped fitter for three starts back this time, and I think that she finally finds herself in a winnable race this week.
The Savabeel filly finished down the order in both the Light Fingers and the Surround Stakes first and second-up this time, but was far more effective when finishing within a couple of lengths of the winner in the Alexandra Stakes last time.
She steps out this week in peak order and will relish another drop in class.
Manhari Metal Plate (1600m) – 4:50pm
Tip: No. 6 Ain’tnodeeldun
He clearly needed his first run back from a long spell, but I am expecting good improvement from Ain’tnodeeldun when he takes his place in the penultimate race at Caulfield on Saturday.
The Dundeel ended his last prep with three consecutive race wins, highlighted by a dominant performance in Listed company on Cup Day 2020.
Having sustained an injury, he was forced into the paddock for more than a year, but I didn’t think that he was disgraced when eighth in Group 3 company last month.
Seppelt Wines Handicap (1400m) – 5:25pm
Tip: No. 16 Able Willie
This isn’t the easiest way to end the day from a betting perspective and there is a case to be made for several, including Able Willie.
Able Willie is yet to strike in three starts back from a spell, but he hasn’t been far from the winner on any occasion, and he has improved with each.
He steps out this week in peak order, he gets into the race well and with even luck from out wide, I think it looks a winnable one for him.
