Race 1: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1350m) – 12:20pm
Tip: No. 8 Shihonka
Three year old filly Shihonka broke through for her maiden race win at Wyong to kick start this campaign, scoring by over six lengths.
She was no match for them at Caufield at Group 3 level next start but bounced back with a nice win at this track last time out.
Hopefully she can start our day on a winning note.
Race 2: Highway Handicap (1800m) – 12:55pm
Tip: No. 9 Hokahey
Hokahey has earned a shot in town with back to back wins at Canberra leading into this assignment.
The lightly raced four year old mare has been in the money in all five of her starts so far this prep and will be plenty fit for this event.
Race 3: Benchmark 72 Handicap (1200m) – 1:30pm
Tip: No. 6 Starman
We haven’t seen the Chris Waller trained Starman at the races since late September where he ran fourth at Gosford over 1200m.
He will be a bit lighter this time after having the ultimate gear change since then which may just switch him onto the task at hand a bit better.
Drawn well in barrier four and James McDonald steers.
Race 4: Benchmark 88 Handicap (1100m) – 2:05pm
Tip: No. 8 Mr Mosaic
Mr Mosaic has managed four wins from 10 career race starts and been placed on two other occasions.
The lightly raced five year old gelding has won all three of his first up assignments in the past and in a small field that lacks a fair amount of depth, he looks the one to beat.
Race 5: Benchmark 72 Handicap (1300m) – 2:40pm
Tip: No. 11 Lemaire
Lemaire is a progressive type of horse racing consistently right at the minute having placed in two of his three starts so far this prep.
This is a competitive race with many winning chances and although it is a step up in grade, he represents good each way value at his current quote.
Race 6: Benchmark 72 Handicap (1800m) – 3:20pm
Tip: No. 2 Rousseau
The Chris Waller trained Rousseau was a narrow winner at The Valley last Friday night coming from back in the field to run over the top of his rivals.
The son of So You Think is having his fifth run this prep so fitness should not be an issue four the four year old and he has drawn perfectly in barrier two with James McDonald in the saddle.
Race 7: Benchmark 78 Handicap (2000m) – 4:00pm
Tip: No. 7 Jesse James
Jesse James i a horse with a heap of natural ability as shown by his two wins so far this prep by a combined 5.3 lengths.
The lightly raced five year old gelding has been unplaced just once in his short 10 start career and although this is a step up in class, he represents good each way value.
Race 8: Benchmark 72 Handicap (1500m) – 4:40pm
Tip: No. 4 For Valour
For Valour has been working his way through the grades well this prep at the provincial tracks and has earned a shot in town off the back of back to back wins.
He broke his maiden status at Hawkesbury when winning by 2.77 lengths before scoring by three quarters of a length at Wyong last start.
Tim Clark can boot him to the front from barrier eight and he will be tough to run down late.
Race 9: Benchmark 88 Handicap (1400m) – 5:20pm
Tip: No. 8 Katalin
Katalin kick starts this campaign with a win at this track and distance which was her fourth win in seven starts at the time.
Nothing went right for her last start at Newcastle but she gets in really well at the weights for this contest and it will take a good one to beat her.
Race 10: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m) – 6:00pm
Tip: Boxed Trifecta 2/3/5/13
