The 2022 Warrnambool Carnival enters its second day on Wednesday, and the Listed Wangoom Handicap headlines another exciting ten-race program.

Warrnambool City Volkswagen 2YO Handicap (1200m) – 11:20am
Tip: No. 1 Jamarra
Jamarra can return to winning form in the first on Wangoom Handicap Day.
The Duporth colt is easily the most experienced galloper in this race, and he is also the only horse to have won previously.
He only just missed at his last two starts at Sandown and Caulfield respectively, and I think that this is another great opportunity for him.
Western District Electrical Services Maiden Plate (1400m) – 11:50am
Tip: No. 12 Life Lessons
Life Lessons will take plenty of improvement into her second career start at Warrnambool today, and she can break her maiden.
The Tavistock filly showed promise at the trials prior to debuting, and she flashed late to only just miss at Sandown.
She’s drawn ideally under Blaike McDougall and I am happy to stick with her.
Bottle-O Warrnambool 3YO Maiden Plate (1700m) – 12:20pm
Tip: No. 1 Celtic Glory
This looks to be one of the more open races on the program, and a horse liker Celtic Glory can break her maiden.
The Toronado filly is a fifteen-start maiden, but she has raced well in decent company, and hasn’t been disgraced in Saturday metro company.
She might not be offered a better opportunity to strike, and we can have an each-way play at around the $9 mark.
Warrnambool Greyhound Cup Tonight Maiden Plate (1700m) – 12:55pm
Tip: No. 3 Cotton Eye Joe
This is another open race with plenty of live chances, including Cotton Eye Joe.
Cotton Eye Joe returned some nice efforts last time without posting an elusive win, and he returned with a decent effort at Stawell last month, finishing midfield.
He’s another who will enjoy plenty of improvement, and he’s another whom we can have something on each way.
Decron Dunroe BM120 Steeplechase (3450m) – 1:30pm
Tip: No. 1 Runaway
Runaway looms as the one to beat in this Steeplechase.
The Waterhouse & Bott-trained galloper has been a notable and largely consistent performer in some of the country’s best jumps races for a few seasons now, and he has stripped fitter for runs in the Echuca Cup and a Pakenham Hurdle this time.
I like that he has been back to the trials since his last race, and he is the one that I want to be with on Wednesday.
Galleywood Hurdle (3200m) – 2:05pm
Tip: No. 1 Saunter Boy
Saunter Boy has fast become one of the country’s best jumpers, and he looks the one to beat in this year’s Galleywood Hurdle.
The son of Myboycharlie finished fifth over a mile and a half at Caulfield when resuming, but charged home to win over the jumps at Pakenham last time out.
Fitter third-up and stepping out in the race that he has been set for, I think he’ll take a power of beating.
Sinclair Wilson BM70 Handicap (1000m) – 2:45pm
Tip: No. 17 Super Thief
Super Thief can make a winning return to the races in the seventh on Wangoom Handicap Day.
The Super Easy gelding won each of his first two starts back last time, and he wasn’t disgraced in a couple of decent races in two third and fourth up.
He hasn’t finished worse than second at this point of his prep previously, and he should receive every chance on Wednesday.
Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m) – 3:20pm
Tip: No. 5 King Of Hastings
This is a typically strong and open edition of the Wangoom Handicap, and there is a case to be made for several gallopers, including King Of Hastings.
King Of Hastings has been a great horse for the Freedmans since debuting, and he’s picked off plenty of quality races throughout his twenty-one career starts.
He clearly needed his first back this time when seventh, beaten two and a half lengths in the VOBIS Gold Comet at Flemington in March, but he has been freshened since that effort, and he relishes racing on soft.
Prydes EasiFeed BM70 Handicap (1400m) – 4pm
Tip: No Bet
Visinari has opened a clear favourite in betting following a dominant first-up win at Pakenham, at which he greeted the judge nearly eight lengths ahead of his rivals.
I think he’ll only improve for that effort and he’ll win again, but the $1.75 is too short for me, and I am happy to watch.
Whalers Hotel BM64 Handicap (1700m) – 4:30pm
Tip: No. 13 Sachem
Sachem can win the last on Wangoom Handicap Day.
The Matty Williams-trained gelding hit the line well to finish second in BM64 company at Geelong when resuming, and was just a little out of his depth in the VOBIS Sires Guineas at Caulfield last time.
This is a genuine drop in class, and Jamie Kah rides today from a good draw.
