For the second time in as many weeks, Group 1 racing is slated for Perth’s Ascot Racecourse, and a talented field has accepted for the Winterbottom Stakes.
Reigning champion Elite Street looks to have gone to another level this prep, and Winterbottom Stakes betting suggests that he is the one to beat again.
Have I put him on top? Scroll down to my 2021 Winterbottom Stakes Tips to find out!
Winterbottom Stakes – Winner – No. 2 Elite Street
Without the east coast raiders that it usually boasts, I think that it’s pretty clear than Elite Street is the class horse in the Winterbottom Stakes field, and I have indeed put him on top.
He charged in to score an impressive victory in this race last year, despite being unwanted in the market, and but he didn’t live up to expectations during an Autumn Carnival prep on the east coast this year.
Returning to Perth, he won the Crawford Stakes here when resuming in October and simply hasn’t looked back, taking each of the Princes Of Wales Stakes and the Colonel Reeves since.
Brad Rawiller keeps the ride and with even luck, he’ll take a power of beating again.
Winterbottom Stakes – 2nd – No. 1 Rock Magic
Stepping out for his final-ever race at an incredible twelve-years-old, I am backing the story and putting the evergreen Rock Magic into my Winterbottom Stakes quinella.
Rock Magic has been nothing short of outstanding for the Gangemi stable throughout his career, and he is unlucky not to have recorded a victory at the highest level.
He has continued to return high-quality performances in Group 1 contests around the country, and he has stripped fitter for two starts back this time, running second in the Crawford Stakes and fourth in the Prince Of Wales Stakes.
He’s drawn ideally, steps out in peak order and adds some serious value to our numbers at around the $31 mark.
Winterbottom Stakes – 3rd – No. 15 Graceful Girl
Graceful Girl returned a nice performance behind Elite Street in the Colonel Reeves a fortnight ago, and she can fight her way into the finish this week as well.
The Nicconi mare was an easy winner here at Ascot when resuming this time, and while her second-up performances was flat, her run in the Colonel Reeves suggested that she is nearing peak order.
William Pike rides, and that obviously doesn’t do anything to hinder her chances.
Winterbottom Stakes – 4th – No. 16 Wilchino
This is a pretty substantial rise in class, but it’s very hard to fault Wilchino’s recent form, and I think that she can lay a good account for herself in the Winterbottom Stakes 2021.
The Maschino mare has recorded a career total of eight wins and a minor from just eleven trips to the races, and she hasn’t tasted anything but success in three back this time.
I think a couple of these horses might have her covered for class, but she gets into the Winterbottom Stakes field well under the conditions, and she does look good enough to compete at this level.
